LG Manoj Sinha Lauds Dr. Suheel Rasool Mir’s Efforts to Preserve JK’s Cultural Heritage

Srinagar, July 7: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday appreciated the efforts of renowned sociologist, author and cultural researcher Dr. Suheel Rasool Mir in documenting, preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.

Talking to Kashmir Convener, Dr Mir said during a meeting at Lok Bhavan, he briefed the Lieutenant Governor on several landmark initiatives, including the conceptualisation, curation and establishment of the Shina Cultural Centre at Gurez, the Pahari Cultural Centre at Karnah and the Shina-Dard Cultural Centre at Darchik.

 He said these centres have been envisioned as living repositories of indigenous knowledge, language, history and community memory.

According to the statement issued by Raj Bhawan, Dr. Mir also presented the Lieutenant Governor with the inaugural edition of Shinon Meeras Dard Heritage Magazine, the first publication dedicated exclusively to the history, language, literature, folklore and living traditions of the Dard-Shina people, along with his latest book, Voices Across the Pir Panjal, which documents the cultural traditions, oral heritage and social history of the Pahari community.

Mir further shared his vision for strengthening cultural documentation, promoting heritage-based development, establishing community museums and encouraging greater youth participation in preserving the Union Territory’s civilisational legacy.

Talking to Kashmir Convener, Dr Mir said the Lieutenant Governor commended their sustained work in the fields of research, documentation, publication and institution-building, describing his initiatives as significant contributions towards safeguarding Jammu and Kashmir’s diverse cultural heritage.

 He also highlighted the importance of such scholarly efforts in promoting cultural awareness, social cohesion and a stronger sense of identity among the younger generation.
