Bandipora, May 18: Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad Thursday kick started U19 Boys Inter-District Provincial Kho Kho Championship at International Delhi Public School (IDPS) Bandipora as part of the India’s G20 presidency celebration campaign.
An official spokesperson said the highly anticipated event is set to bring together talented young athletes from various districts, showcasing their skills and promoting the sport of Kho Kho.
The program commenced with an oath marking a significant step towards a drug-free India. The ceremony gathered, students, teachers, and officials, besides all committed to creating a society free from the clutches of substance abuse.
Padmashree awardee Faisal Ali, JD Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad, officers from Youth Services and Sports department were present on the occasion.
Speaking about the championship, the DC expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "We are delighted to host the U19 Inter-District Provisional Kho Kho Championship in Bandipora. “This event not only showcases the sporting talent of our young athletes but also strengthens the bond between districts”.
He said Kho Kho is a traditional Indian sport that embodies our cultural heritage, and through this championship, we aim to revive interest in this indigenous game."
District Youth Services and Sports Officer on the occasion said the U19 Inter-District Provincial Kho Kho Championship is set to witness the participation of enthusiastic teams from 10 districts of Kashmir division.
He said that the event will feature highly competitive matches, highlighting the agility, speed, and strategic thinking that are integral to the game of Kho Kho. He said Spectators can look forward to witnessing intense moments of athleticism and teamwork as these young athletes strive to outperform their opponents.
While interacting with the teams, Dr. Owais advised them to stay away from the menace of drug abuse. He advised them to work harder and respect elders to achieve their goals in life.
The U19 Inter-District Provisional Kho Kho Championship promises to be an exhilarating experience for all involved. The event will not only provide young athletes with an opportunity to exhibit their talent but also serve as a stepping stone for future achievements in the realm of sports.

Later, a series of color cultural programs were displayed by the students, which mesmerized the audience.
