Budgam Police detains 3 Bandipora residents in Alleged Job, Admission Fraud

BUDGAM, Oct 9: Budgam Police have arrested three more persons in an alleged fraud case involving promises of government jobs, educational admissions and lucrative business opportunities, taking the total number of arrests to five.

The newly arrested accused have been identified as Zahoor Ahmad Bhat of Watpora, Bandipora; Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat of Kaloosa, Bandipora; and Saleem Ali Bhat of Plan, Bandipora.

In a statment issued to Kashmir Convener, Budgam Police said Zahoor Ahmad Bhat had emerged as a key alleged conspirator during the investigation.

Spokesperson said Police is questioning the three accused to establish their individual roles, determine the alleged network’s modus operandi and identify other persons linked to the case.

Earlier, police had arrested Jehangir Ahmad Dar and Firdous Ahmad Bhat in connection with the investigation.

According to Budgam Police, the alleged syndicate duped people by promising government employment, admissions to educational institutions outside Jammu and Kashmir and profitable business deals through fictitious entities.

The accused allegedly claimed links with senior government officials and political figures to gain victims’ trust and persuade them to pay substantial sums of money.

The investigation is focused on tracing financial transactions, identifying additional victims and associates, and establishing the extent of the alleged fraud. Police said further arrests and recoveries were possible as the investigation progressed.

Budgam Police have urged people to verify claims relating to government jobs, educational admissions and business opportunities through authorised channels. Those who believe they have been victims of similar fraud have been advised to report the matter to the nearest police station.
