MoD Signs ₹7,995 Crore Agreement with US for 5-Year Sustainment Support of Indian Navy’s MH-60R Helicopters
New Delhi, November 28: The Ministry of Defence has signed Letters of Offer and Acceptance (LOAs) with the United States Government for a five-year sustainment support programme for the Indian Navy’s MH-60R multi-role helicopters. The agreements, valued at approximately ₹7,995 crore, were concluded under the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) framework in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh.
The comprehensive sustainment package covers spares provisioning, support equipment, product support, training, technical assistance, repair and replenishment of components, and the establishment of Intermediate-level component repair and Periodic Maintenance Inspection (PMI) facilities within India.
The in-country development of these facilities is expected to enhance long-term capability, reduce dependence on the US, and promote indigenous industry involvement, in line with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision. The move is also likely to boost participation from Indian MSMEs and other domestic firms.
The sustainment support will significantly improve the operational availability of the advanced, all-weather MH-60R helicopters, which possess potent anti-submarine warfare capabilities. It will also enable seamless operations from both land bases and ships, strengthening mission readiness across primary and secondary naval roles. (PIB)
