BANDIPORA, JUNE 4: Jammu and Kashmir’s Minister for Health and Education, Sakina Itoo, on Wednesday said that the National Conference (NC)-led government is preparing a proposal to address the acute shortage of staff in the health and education sectors.

She added that the government is actively reviewing the 2007 ban on the creation of new posts in the health department.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a public outreach programme (Public Darbar) in Bandipora, Itoo said, “There has been a ban on post creation since 2007, which is now being reviewed. The government is working towards addressing this issue, and a comprehensive proposal is in the pipeline to fill the long-pending vacancies, particularly in the health and education sectors.”

The minister also met several public delegations during her day-long visit and listened to grievances ranging from shortage of doctors to infrastructure gaps in schools. She assured the delegations of timely redressal of their concerns.

When asked about the ongoing discussions on reservation policies, Itoo said that the government is examining all aspects of the matter. “The committee is working on it and will submit its report within the stipulated deadline,” she said.

During the visit, Itoo reviewed progress in key projects under the health and education departments and assessed on-ground challenges.
