Ganderbal, September 2026: A Mechanical Engineering student of Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET), Safapora, Wasil Ayoub Kashkarie, has secured the top position in the Young Professional Category at Innovation Pitch 2026, emerging among the promising young innovators from across Kashmir.

The innovation challenge was organised by the University of Kashmir in collaboration with the IEEE Region 10 Ad Hoc Committee on Entrepreneurship and Innovation. With the achievement, Wasil will now advance to the national-level round, where he will represent the region at a broader platform for innovation and entrepreneurship.

Wasil secured the top position for his project, “Zariya – Smart Drone with a Robotic End Effector,” an innovative system that combines unmanned aerial technology with robotic manipulation. The technology enables drones to move beyond surveillance and physically interact with their surroundings, opening up possibilities for applications requiring aerial mobility and robotic handling.

The achievement has been welcomed by GCET Safapora as a significant recognition of the student’s commitment to innovation, academic excellence and technology-driven problem-solving.

Throughout his academic journey, Wasil has represented GCET Safapora in various national-level academic and co-curricular initiatives, bringing recognition to the institution.

The college congratulated Wasil on his achievement and appreciated his dedication and efforts towards developing practical technological solutions. The institution expressed confidence that his success would inspire other students and aspiring innovators across the region.

Wasil will now prepare for the national round of Innovation Pitch 2026, where he will take his “Zariya” innovation to a wider platform.
