PAMPORE, JUNE 09:In an inspiring example of self-reliance and innovation, an educated youth from Pampore in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district has successfully transformed modern agriculture into a profitable venture, creating new employment opportunities for local youngsters.
Rafiq Rasool, a talented and educated resident of Meej Pampore, chose agriculture over the conventional search for government jobs. After completing his higher education, he decided to build his future in the agricultural sector by adopting modern farming techniques and utilizing government welfare schemes.
Under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), Rafiq Rasool established a state-of-the-art high-tech polyhouse where different varieties of high-quality hybrid and off-season vegetables are cultivated throughout the year. The polyhouse produces crops such as tomatoes, capsicum, cucumber, spinach, coriander, and several other vegetables using scientific and modern farming methods.
The initiative has not only increased agricultural productivity but has also ensured the availability of fresh vegetables in local markets across all seasons. By using advanced cultivation techniques, Rafiq Rasool has demonstrated how modern agriculture can become a sustainable and profitable profession for educated youth.
Speaking about his venture, Rafiq Rasool said that government schemes in the agriculture sector offer immense opportunities for young people. He urged educated youth to take advantage of modern farming and entrepreneurship initiatives instead of relying solely on traditional employment opportunities.
Importantly, the project has also generated employment for several local youths who are now associated with the polyhouse and engaged in various agricultural activities. The initiative is helping in reducing unemployment and promoting self-employment in the area.
