Bandipora, January 26: The District Administration Bandipora on Wednesday felicitated Head teacher of Govt Primary School Collie Mohallah Authwatto for outstanding performance during Swach Bharat Abhiyan under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahatsov.

The teacher Nisar Ahmad Sheikh was felicitated by the Chairman District Development Council Bandipora Abdul Gani Bhat in presence of Deputy Commissioner Dr Owais Ahmad and Senior Superintendent of Police Mohammad Zahid during republic day celebrations.

Officials said Mahatma Gandhi made cleanliness and sanitation an integral part of the Gandhian way of living. His dream was total sanitation for all. Cleanliness is most important for physical well-being and a healthy environment. “Keeping the golden words of Gandhi regarding cleanliness in mind, Headmaster GPS Colie Mohalla Athwatoo Bandipora Nisar Ahmad Sheikh took up the task to train the children and recreate Gandhi's vision during Azadi Ka Amrit Mahatsov to spread the message of cleanliness in the village”. The School re-enacted Mahatma Gandhis' Dandi March not for Salt production but for awareness regarding cleanliness under Swach Bharat Abhiyan.

One student of 5th class Irfan Ahmad Colie S/O Gh Qadir Colie of Panar Village played the role of Mahatma Gandhi with the complete getup of Gandhi-Jie and cleaned the whole surrounding of the school. Children enjoyed a lot and understood the message of Ghandi Ji very well, officials said.

The show attracted a lot of people from the village to watch Gandhi's march for cleanliness. Panar Village is one of the remotest villages of the district with critically low literacy rate. Most of the people work as labourers and with great efforts of the teachers the parents of this village were motivated to send their wards to school. A show like this not only sent a message of cleanliness to the masses but also helped the other parents to send their children to school who were not sending children to school. "The Gandhi Jis show talked of the village for a long time and the message was well received that was gauged from the fact that people stopped throwing waste in open or in nearby streams," officials said.

"The acting of the Boy with no background knowledge of such things is indeed appreciable and we thank administration for felicitating the School that will boost the morale of this community living in extreme poverty condition in a remote village of Bandipora district,"
