Punjab, September 5: Lovely Professional University (LPU) on Saturday marked its 25th Foundation Day and entered its Silver Jubilee year, celebrating its growth from a professional education institute established in 2001 into a university with more than 35,000 students and over 7,000 teaching and non-teaching staff.

The foundation day celebrations coincided with Teachers’ Day and included the unveiling of the university’s 25th Year Institution Symbol and recognition of faculty and staff for their contributions.

LPU’s journey began in 2001 with the establishment of the International Institute of Management, which started with four management programmes under Punjab Technical University. The institution received university status in 2005.

Over the past 25 years, LPU has expanded its academic offerings and campus infrastructure. The university currently offers more than 150 programmes and has students from over 70 countries. It also has a range of academic, residential, healthcare, hospitality and commercial facilities on its campus, including UniMall, UniHotel and UniHospital.

The university said its growth has also been reflected in research, innovation, entrepreneurship, sports and student careers. LPU faculty members have featured among the world’s top two per cent of scientists, while students have participated in international sporting events and global robotics and innovation competitions.

LPU has also featured in national and international rankings, including securing the 31st position in the NIRF 2025 rankings and fifth position in India in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026. The university holds NAAC A++ accreditation.

Founder Chancellor and Rajya Sabha Member Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal said the Silver Jubilee marked a point in the university’s development from institution-building towards creating wider impact. He said future education would need greater emphasis on project-based learning, artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, earning while learning and portfolios that demonstrate students’ practical capabilities.

As part of the Teachers’ Day celebrations, LPU organised a Staff Appreciation Award Ceremony to recognise faculty and staff across teaching, research, administrative services, residential support and skills development categories.

The university said cash awards of up to Rs 6.5 crore were distributed across various categories to recognise the contribution of its employees.

LPU said its focus during the Silver Jubilee year would include practical learning, artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, innovation and outcomes, with the institution seeking to extend its educational and research impact beyond the campus.
