Kashmir University Recruitment Delays Draw Aspirants’ Criticism

Convener News Desk

Srinagar, Oct 19: Aspirants for Public Relations Officer (PRO) and Junior Engineer posts advertised by the University of Kashmir have expressed concern over the alleged delay in conducting written examinations, saying the recruitment process remains pending despite the publication of syllabi on the university’s website.

The university had advertised one post of Public Relations Officer for its Convocation Complex under Advertisement Notice No. 01 of 2026, dated January 1, 2026. Five posts of Junior Engineers in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical disciplines were subsequently advertised under Advertisement Notice No. 05 of 2026, dated March 30, 2026.

Candidates who applied for the posts said they had been preparing for the written examinations after the university published the respective syllabi, but the recruitment section had yet to conduct the tests.

A media professional who completed his postgraduate diploma from the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) and applied for the PRO post said the prolonged wait had left applicants uncertain about the recruitment schedule. He said candidates had invested time in preparing for the examination and expected the university to communicate a clear timeline.

An engineering graduate who completed his BTech from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar, and applied for a Junior Engineer post in the Civil discipline also expressed concern over the delay. He said he had been preparing for the written test but was still awaiting the examination schedule.

The delay has also prompted questions from senior journalists about the university’s public relations arrangements. One senior journalist pointed out that the university had remained without a regular PRO since the termination of the then PRO in 2007 during the tenure of Vice-Chancellor Wahid, and questioned why the post was being advertised again after such a prolonged gap.

The journalist also raised concerns over the suitability of the university’s existing media advisory arrangement, arguing that the role requires specialised knowledge of journalism and public relations.

Candidates have sought clarity from the university administration and recruitment section regarding the status of the advertised posts and the likely dates for the written examinations. They have urged the institution to issue a clear schedule so that applicants can plan their preparation and avoid prolonged uncertainty. [KNT]
