PAMPORE, October 19: MLA Pampore and retired Justice Hasnain Masoodi on Monday inaugurated macadamisation work on the Pampore–Zaffron Colony road at Frestabal, addressing a long-pending demand of local residents.

Assistant Executive Engineer, Roads and Buildings Department, Pampore, Summera Bashir, was present on the occasion.

During an interaction with residents, Masoodi said improving road connectivity remained a priority across the constituency. He assured residents of Tulbagh that macadamisation of the Khrew Chowk–ITI College road would begin within a week.

Later, he held a public meeting at Meej, where residents raised several local issues. Masoodi assured them that efforts would be made to address their grievances.

Talking to Kashmir Convener, Masoodi said road macadamisation had been undertaken in different parts of the constituency under the Omar Abdullah-led government. He said work on the Frestabal road had begun in response to residents’ long-standing demand, as the stretch was in a dilapidated condition.

He said additional funds would be required to extend the macadamisation work along the entire stretch up to the old National Highway in Pampore, expressing hope that the remaining funds would be released.

Masoodi described the Khrew Chowk–ITI College road in Tulbagh as a priority, saying efforts were under way to begin work within the week. He said available savings and additional funds would be utilised to improve the road.

The MLA said ₹40 lakh had been sanctioned for road improvement works in Meej, Konibal, Munpora and Wuyan. The tendering process had been completed, and work would proceed subject to a favourable response to the tender.

He added that around 13 kilometres of roads had been macadamised in the constituency during the current year, with ₹4.5 crore allocated for the works and an additional ₹1 crore provided.

Masoodi also flagged the poor condition of the Lethpora–Ladhoo and Wuyan–Pampore roads. He said projects worth ₹10 crore each had been prepared under the Central Road Fund (CRF), but approval and release of funds were still awaited.
