Srinagar, Oct 21: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Wednesday said the J&K Police will pursue those supporting terrorism and ensure they face legal action, warning that the “days of terror supporters are numbered”.

Addressing a gathering on Police Commemoration Day 2026, DGP Prabhat as per Kashmir Convener said the force’s objective was to eliminate terrorism and dismantle the network supporting it in Jammu and Kashmir. “Our objective is clear: to identify and completely uproot terrorism and every element associated with terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

Issuing a warning to those backing terrorism, the DGP said security agencies would track them down irrespective of where they sought refuge. “Even if you attempt to hide in the deepest corners of the earth, we will find you and ensure that you are punished under the law,” he said.

DGP Prabhat also sought greater public cooperation in maintaining peace, stressing that communal harmony and mutual trust were essential for the region’s progress. He urged people to remain vigilant against attempts to disturb peace and stability. “Unity in diversity is the identity of India and social harmony is an important foundation for the progress of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said, calling on people to support the J&K Police, the Army and other security forces.

The DGP also underlined the need to strengthen measures against crimes targeting women and children and to protect vulnerable sections of society, calling for effective mechanisms to prevent such offences and ensure timely justice for victims.

On drug abuse and trafficking, Prabhat said enforcement against the illegal narcotics trade needed to be intensified, describing the issue as a concern extending beyond law and order. “This is not merely a question of law and order. It is about protecting the future of our youth, the well-being of families and the moral strength of our society,” he said, reiterating the need to work towards a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.

Paying tribute to police personnel who died in the line of duty, the DGP said the best way to honour their sacrifice was to work towards a safe, peaceful, harmonious and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir. He also stressed the need to ensure the welfare of the families of police martyrs and provide them continued support.

DGP Prabhat commended the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Army and the Central Armed Police Forces for their courage, dedication and commitment to duty, and wished them safety and success in their operations.
