Kulgam, August 25: An Awareness Programme and Training Session on Disaster Management was organised at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Qaimoh, Kulgam, under the Smartpur Project by REACHA in collaboration with SDRF Kulgam. The programme was conducted with a women-centric approach, with a focus on enhancing awareness, preparedness and resilience among women and young girls.
The programme aimed at sensitising participants about disaster preparedness, safety measures, emergency response and the importance of remaining alert and responsible during disasters and other emergency situations.
During the session, SDRF personnel provided valuable guidance on disaster management, preparedness and emergency response.
The participants were briefed on essential safety measures and the importance of timely and appropriate action during emergencies. The interactive training also helped participants understand the role of individuals and communities, particularly women, in reducing disaster risks and responding effectively to emergencies.
Speaking on the occasion, State Lead, Smartpur Kashmir, Mr. Mir Abeedullah, said, “Disaster preparedness is not only the responsibility of response agencies but a collective responsibility of every individual and community. Creating awareness among students, particularly young girls and women, is an important step towards building a culture of preparedness, where people know how to respond calmly and effectively during emergencies. We are grateful to SDRF Kulgam for their valuable support and for sharing practical knowledge with the participants. Such collaborative initiatives will continue to strengthen community resilience and disaster preparedness at the grassroots level.”
Officials said the programme also highlighted the importance of equipping women and young people with practical knowledge and awareness so that they can act as responsible first responders and spread the message of preparedness within their families and communities.
The initiative forms part of the ongoing efforts under the Smartpur Project to promote awareness, preparedness, women’s participation and community resilience at the grassroots level. The session concluded with a renewed emphasis on collective responsibility, continued awareness and preparedness for building safer and more resilient communities.
