NEW DELHI, AUGUST 10: A delegation of the Jammu & Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Sunday met Rajya Sabha MP and President of the Supreme Court Bar Association Kapil Sibal at his residence in New Delhi and apprised him of a range of concerns affecting students, job aspirants and unemployed youth in Jammu & Kashmir.
In a statement issued to Kashmir Convener, an official spokesperson said the delegation was led by JKSA National Convenor Nasir Khuehami and included senior office-bearers of the Association’s Delhi unit, including Saqib Naikoo, Mohammad Nazim and Irshad Ahmad.
During the meeting, the delegation highlighted what it described as persistent recruitment irregularities, examination cancellations, paper leaks, procedural lapses and delays in government recruitment processes in Jammu & Kashmir. It sought parliamentary intervention to strengthen transparency and accountability in recruitment institutions.
Khuehami referred to controversies surrounding recruitment examinations including the Jammu & Kashmir Police Sub-Inspector (JKPSI), Finance Accounts Assistant (FAA), Junior Engineer (Civil) and Fire and Emergency Services, alleging that repeated irregularities and prolonged investigations had caused uncertainty among thousands of aspirants.
He said many educated youth had spent years preparing for competitive examinations only to face cancellations, delays, litigation and investigations. In some cases, aspirants were also at risk of crossing the upper age limit while awaiting the conclusion of recruitment processes.
The Association stressed that the absence of a predictable recruitment calendar and recurring examination-related controversies had eroded confidence among young people and raised questions over the credibility of public recruitment mechanisms.
The delegation also drew Sibal’s attention to concerns of people from Jammu & Kashmir living and working in different parts of the country, including garment workers, traders, small business owners and other sections of the community. It emphasised the need to ensure their safety, livelihood, dignity and access to institutional support.
Responding to the issues raised, Sibal gave a detailed hearing to the delegation and acknowledged the seriousness of concerns relating to unemployment, recruitment irregularities, examination controversies and uncertainty among educated youth.
He assured the delegation that the issues raised would receive due attention and said he would seek to raise the concerns, as appropriate, during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament and pursue them with the concerned ministries and competent authorities.
According to the statement, Sibal also underlined the importance of transparency, accountability and fairness in public recruitment, assuring the delegation that efforts would be made to ensure that the legitimate aspirations and concerns of the youth of Jammu & Kashmir receive due consideration at the appropriate levels of government.
