CRPF Organises Youth Football Event to Promote Sports, Anti-Drug Awareness

Srinagar, May 7: The Under-16 Kashmir Youth Football Tournament organised by the 161 Battalion Central Reserve Police Force concluded in Downtown Srinagar on Wednesday, with officials and participants highlighting the role of sports in youth engagement and anti-drug awareness.

The tournament, which featured separate competitions for boys and girls, drew participation from local football clubs and students from various educational institutions. Officials said the initiative was aimed at promoting sports activities among youth and reviving football culture in the Downtown area.

In the girls’ final, New Hyderya Football Club defeated Tawheed Tigers Soura 1-0. The winning goal was scored by player Ulfat, who was also declared Player of the Tournament.

The boys’ final saw Haroon Football Club defeat Hyderya Football Club by 2-1. Captain Saidan Bukhari was named Player of the Tournament for his performance during the competition.

The finals were attended by Commandant Balihar Singh, who served as chief guest, along with Second-in-Command Sanjay Kumar and other officials.

Officials said a large number of spectators attended the event, including students from Government Girls High School Narwara. During the programme, sports equipment including volleyballs and nets were distributed among students. Financial assistance of ₹5,100 was also provided to a specially-abled Class 12 student, Ghulam Hussain.

Cash prizes, medals and trophies were awarded to winning and runner-up teams in both categories.

Addressing participants, Balihar Singh encouraged youth to participate in sports and avoid drug abuse. Sanjay Kumar also highlighted the role of sports in promoting constructive engagement among young people.

Officials said the tournament was part of efforts to encourage a sports-oriented environment and strengthen community participation in youth activities.
