Srinagar, May 6: The Jammu and Kashmir Youth National Conference District President Srinagar, Irshad Ahmad Anchari, has welcomed the passage of the Private Universities Bill in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, describing it as a landmark and forward-looking legislative intervention by the Omar-led government aimed at strengthening the higher education ecosystem in the region.

Anchari stated that the legislation marks a decisive step toward expanding academic infrastructure, enhancing accessibility to quality higher education, and fostering greater private sector participation in the education landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.

He emphasized that the reform-oriented initiative is expected to significantly broaden academic choices for students and create new avenues for advanced learning within the region, thereby reducing dependency on institutions outside J&K.

He further observed that the move reflects a progressive policy outlook focused on educational modernization, skill development, and youth empowerment, aligning with the broader vision of socio-economic upliftment through knowledge-based growth.

Anchari also expressed hope that the implementation framework of the Bill will be ensured in a transparent, accountable, and student-centric manner, with robust regulatory oversight to safeguard academic standards and protect student interests. He noted that the legislation provides for the establishment, incorporation, and regulation of private universities in the Union Territory, with clear provisions for governance, management, and quality assurance in higher education.

He added that the era in which students were compelled to travel to distant regions for quality education must now gradually give way to an environment where world-class academic opportunities are available within Jammu and Kashmir itself, thereby strengthening local capacity and nurturing homegrown talent.
