Kulgam, April 8: In a firm action against violations of drug control regulations, Kulgam Police conducted inspections in the Devsar area, sealing two medical shops for serious breaches related to the handling of scheduled/NRX drugs and booking two others for CCTV non-compliance.

The inspections were carried out by police teams from PS Devsar in coordination with the Drug Controller. During the drive, two establishments were found indulging in gross violations of norms governing the maintenance of mandatory records for NRX drugs, raising concerns over potential misuse and diversion.

Both shops were seized and sealed on the spot, pending further legal proceedings.

During the inspection drive, a medical Store was sealed for violating Section 18 of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act due to non-maintenance of mandatory records of NRX drugs while other medical Store was seized for contravening Section 22(d) read with Section 18 of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act on similar grounds, as it failed to maintain the required records of NRX drugs.

Additionally, two other medical shops were temporarily seized for blatant non-compliance with CCTV installation norms, which authorities said undermines proper monitoring and accountability mechanisms.

Further legal action under relevant provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act is being initiated.

SSP Kulgam Anayat Ali Choudhary stated that district police maintain a zero-tolerance policy against violations in the handling and sale of scheduled/NRX drugs. He warned that strict legal action will be taken against any non-compliance and advised medical shop owners to strictly adhere to the provisions of the law, maintain proper records and ensure installation of CCTV systems.

Kulgam Police reiterated its commitment to enforcing regulations governing the sale and distribution of medicines and urged stakeholders to comply with prescribed norms to prevent misuse of pharmaceutical substances.
