Srinagar, Jan 14: The Indian Army on Tuesday commemorated the 10th Defence Forces Veterans’ Day by organising a series of outreach and welfare programmes across multiple locations in the Kashmir Valley to honour ex-servicemen and address their grievances.

Defence Spokesperson in Srinagar told Kashmir Convener that the events were spearheaded by the Chinar Corps and executed by its formations, including the Dagger Division, Vajr Division, Counter Insurgency Force (Kilo) and the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) Regimental Centre.

He said the initiatives were aimed at recognising the contributions of veterans, Veer Matas and Veer Naris, and engaging with their families.

Ex-servicemen rallies were held at Srinagar, Drugmulla, Uri, Chak Kigam, Manasbal, Langate and Haiderbeg, where senior Army officers interacted with veterans and their kin. According to officials, around 1,000 ex-servicemen and nearly 50 Veer Matas and Veer Naris, along with their families, participated in the programmes.

The outreach events focused on resolving issues related to pensions, documentation and medical support, while also spreading awareness about various government welfare schemes. The platforms enabled veterans and their families to directly raise concerns before military and civil officials for timely redressal.

Army officials said the observance of Veterans’ Day reflects the nation’s gratitude towards ex-servicemen for their service and sacrifices, and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to the welfare of those who have served the country.
