Terror recruitment Nearly Nil: LG Sinha

Suhail Khan

Srinagar, May 18: The Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, on Monday said  the recruitment into terror ranks by locals has been almost negligible in the past many months now  and that  no top commander has survived in the UT.

“Infiltration attempts will also face the same fate. The country now knows who carried out the Pahalgam attack. Our Army and CRPF, through Operation Mahadev, settled scores precisely. The way PM Modi took a firm stand, the targets identified were hit in an accurate operation within 48 to 72 hours,” Sinha said in an interview to a national television channel, as per Kashmir Convener.

He said security agencies are maintaining a strict vigil on all communication platforms, including Telegram and WhatsApp, as part of a sustained effort to curb terror activities in the Union Territory.

“Our security agencies are working with complete seriousness. Whether it is Telegram, WhatsApp or any other platform, agencies are monitoring every aspect, and the situation will remain under control,” LG Sinha said.

Drawing a direct link between the narcotics trade and terrorism, the Lt Governor said, “Drugs are directly linked to terror funding and terrorism.” He reiterated the administration’s commitment to dismantling the terror ecosystem and its financial networks.

LG Sinha cited data from the recent crackdown, saying that in the last 38 days, 766 FIRs have been registered, 856 people arrested, and 677 kg of drugs seized. “Passports, Aadhaar tracking, lookout notices, and property demolitions are all part of the crackdown. Our focus is on two things — breaking the supply chain and creating awareness against drugs,” he added.

On the political roadmap, he said that after the abrogation of Article 370, delimitation and peaceful elections were completed without violence or repolls. “Statehood will also be restored as assured by the PM and Home Minister,” Sinha added.

Notably, LG Sinha has given a clarion call to make the Union Territory free from the scourge of drugs. In his ongoing 100-day ‘drug-free Jammu and Kashmir’ initiative, he said there will be no drug trafficking in the UT.

Earlier this month, LG Sinha said in one of the districts: “Let me assure you — there will be no drug trafficking in Jammu and Kashmir. I understand the pain of those suffering from this menace.”

The LG also invited citizens to report instances of innocent people being framed. “If you feel action is being taken against an innocent person, tell me the name. The action will be effective,” he said.

“If some people want to save drug traffickers, then I ask you — should action be taken against them or not? Do you want action? Then say in one voice — there should be action.”

“When the people want it, no power in the world can stop this action,” he added.
