Six-Day Search Ends in Tragedy: Body of 4-Year-Old Recovered in Shopian

Shopian, May 01: A heartbreaking incident in the Dabjan area of Shopian has ended in tragedy after the body of four-year-old Hanjla was recovered on the sixth day of an extensive search operation. The child, a resident of Tekan in Pulwama, had travelled to Dabjan with family members for an outing when the incident occurred.

According to officials and local sources, the family was visiting the scenic area when the child accidentally slipped into the water and was swept away by the current. The sudden incident triggered panic among the family and bystanders, who immediately raised an alarm and began searching for the missing child.

As news of the incident spread, the district administration and police quickly reached the spot and launched a large-scale rescue effort. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were deployed to conduct an intensive search operation. Despite difficult terrain and challenging water conditions, rescuers continued their efforts day and night.

The tragedy drew widespread attention and support from the community. Residents from Shopian and neighbouring Pulwama joined the rescue teams, helping in the search along the water channels and surrounding areas. For several days, hopes remained that the child might be found alive, and the search continued without pause.

After six days of relentless efforts, the search operation finally came to a heartbreaking end when the child’s body was recovered at around 10 a.m. on the sixth day. The recovery brought closure to the long search but left the family and community in deep mourning.

Authorities have appealed to the public to respect the family’s grief and maintain dignity while sharing information about the incident. People have been urged not to upload or circulate any videos related to the tragedy on social media, and instead to share only written updates or photographs in a respectful manner.

The incident has left the entire region in shock, serving as a painful reminder of the importance of safety and vigilance around water bodies, especially when visiting tourist and picnic spots with children.
