Lt Gen Balbir Singh Assumes Command of Srinagar-Based Chinar Corps

Srinagar, May 1: Lieutenant General Balbir Singh on Thursday assumed command of the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, officials said.

Following the change of command, Lt Gen Balbir Singh extended greetings to the people of Kashmir and reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining coordination with the civil administration and security agencies in the region.

In his message after taking over as General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 15 Corps, the officer said the Army would continue to work in close cooperation with the administration and local population to support stability and development in the Kashmir Valley.

He also emphasized maintaining coordination with civil authorities, security forces and local communities to strengthen peace and stability in the region.

Officials said the Chinar Corps will continue its operational and outreach responsibilities across the Valley, including maintaining security along the Line of Control and supporting peace and development initiatives.

Lt Gen Balbir Singh recently succeeded Lt Gen Prashant Srivastava, who has been appointed Quarter Master General at Army Headquarters in New Delhi.

The Srinagar-based Chinar Corps is one of the Indian Army’s key operational formations responsible for counter-insurgency and security operations in Kashmir.
