Rana Inaugurates Rapid Sand Filtration Plant at Dooru; Reviews Key JJM Projects, Hears Public Grievances

Anantnag, June 24: In a significant boost to drinking water infrastructure in South Kashmir, Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, today inaugurated the 0.31 MGD Rapid Sand Filtration Plant at Dooru, Anantnag, aimed at ensuring improved quality and reliability of potable water supply to thousands of residents in the area.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by MLA Dooru Ghulam Ahmad Mir, MLA Anantnag West Abdul Majeed Bhat, senior officers of the Jal Shakti Department and local representatives.

The newly commissioned filtration facility will substantially enhance the treatment and delivery of safe drinking water, benefiting 2,164 households already covered under the scheme. The project marks another important milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen water supply infrastructure and improve public health standards across Jammu and Kashmir.

Following the inauguration, the Minister inspected the progress of the Water Supply Scheme (WSS) Express Highway near Navyug Tunnel, Qazigund, being executed under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). During the inspection, he reviewed the pace of work and directed the concerned officers to expedite the completion of the remaining components while maintaining the highest standards of quality and technical excellence.

Emphasizing the importance of sustainable water infrastructure, Rana stressed that all projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission must be completed within stipulated timelines to ensure long-term water security for the people.

“The Omar Abdullah-led Government is firmly committed to providing every household in Jammu and Kashmir with safe, adequate and reliable drinking water. Strengthening water infrastructure and ensuring quality service delivery remain among our top priorities,” the Minister said.

Later, Rana held a public outreach programme at Dooru, where a large number of delegations and individuals met him and projected various developmental demands and public welfare issues. The Minister listened patiently to the concerns raised by the people and assured them that all genuine issues would be taken up with the concerned departments for prompt resolution.

The outreach programme reflected the government’s commitment to responsive governance and continuous engagement with the people to ensure that developmental benefits reach every section of society.
