Pampore, September 16: Government Middle School (GMS) Jeewan Sahab, located in the Ladhoo area of Pampore, is emerging as a positive example of how government schools in remote areas can provide modern educational facilities to students, particularly those from the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community.
Located in a hilly and far-flung area, the school has facilities including smart classrooms, smart TVs, smart boards, computer education, digital learning resources and sports activities, providing students with opportunities to learn through modern and interactive methods.
For children from financially weaker families, the facilities are significant as many may have limited access to computers, digital devices and other educational resources at home. Technology-based learning has also made classroom education more interactive while helping students develop basic digital skills at an early age.
The school is also focusing on extracurricular activities, including sports, to promote the overall development of students. Teachers encourage children to participate in academic as well as extracurricular activities to help build confidence, communication skills and teamwork.
Speaking to Kashmir Convener, Mohammad Ayaan, a student of GMS Jeewan Sahab, said he belongs to the ST community and that his family does not have sufficient financial resources to afford quality education or computer courses at private institutions.
He said the school provides modern facilities, including computer classes, smart classrooms, smart TVs and smart boards, and appreciated the teachers for their dedication and efforts towards providing quality education.
“We are thankful to the government, the Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, the Chief Education Officer Pulwama, the Zonal Education Officer Pampore and our teachers for providing us with facilities at this government school that are even better than those available in many private schools,” Ayaan said.
He appealed to other students to join the school and make full use of the facilities available there.
“Education is the right and responsibility of every child, and students should come forward and take advantage of these facilities,” he said.
Speaking to Kashmir Convener, In-charge of GMS Jeewan Sahab, Bilal Ahmad Wani, said Jeewan Sahab is a far-flung area where a large section of the population belongs to the ST community, while many families do not have sufficient financial resources to afford education in expensive private schools.
He said the government has taken a commendable initiative by providing modern educational facilities at the school.
“The school has all the facilities required for modern education, including smart classrooms, smart TVs, smart boards, computer systems and a laboratory. The classrooms are equipped with proper furniture and ceiling fans, while other essential facilities are also available,” Wani said.
He said the school has a dedicated team of teachers and staff working towards the educational and overall development of students.
“The success of the school is possible because of our dedicated staff, who are continuously focusing on providing quality education and ensuring the overall welfare of the children,” he said.
Wani said facilities have also been made available for nursery and LKG students according to their educational and developmental needs, including smart TVs, sports facilities and arrangements for recreational activities.
“For senior students, we have computer systems, a laboratory, smart classrooms and well-maintained and properly decorated classrooms. There is no major shortage of facilities in the school,” he said.
He, however, said the school still lacks a proper playground, which remains one of the major requirements for students.
“Except for the playground, almost all the necessary facilities are available in the school. We hope that this requirement will also be addressed so that students can benefit from better sports and recreational opportunities,” Wani said.
