Srinagar, June 24: A two-day UT-Level Capacity Building Workshop on Solid Waste Management & Planning under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Grameen (SBM-G) commenced today at J&K IMPA, Srinagar, bringing together key stakeholders from across Jammu & Kashmir to strengthen capacities and promote sustainable waste management practices.
The workshop has been organized with the objective of enhancing the knowledge and skills of field functionaries and stakeholders involved in the implementation of Solid Waste Management initiatives under SBM-G. Participants deliberated on effective waste management strategies, planning frameworks, scientific processing methods, and the implementation of the latest waste management regulations.
The programme aims to strengthen institutional capacities, encourage scientific and sustainable waste management practices, and facilitate knowledge sharing on innovative solutions for rural sanitation and environmental protection. A series of technical sessions, expert presentations, case studies, and interactive discussions have been scheduled during the two-day workshop to improve participants’ understanding of waste segregation, collection, processing, resource recovery, and safe disposal mechanisms.
Addressing the participants, experts emphasized the importance of adopting a holistic and community-driven approach towards solid waste management to achieve cleaner, healthier, and environmentally sustainable rural areas. The workshop is expected to contribute significantly towards strengthening the implementation of SBM-G and advancing the vision of clean and green villages across the Union Territory.
The workshop witnessed the participation of Director General Rural Sanitation J&K, Deputy Directors Rural Sanitation Jammu/ Kashmir, Assistant Commissioners Panchayat from various districts, Block Development Officers, domain experts, consultants of PMU at Directorate of Rural Sanitation and other officials associated with rural sanitation and waste management programmes.
