NEW DELHI, AUGUST 17: A new Qatar-India postal remittance service powered by UPI has been launched through Qatar Post outlets, enabling customers in Qatar to send money directly to UPI-enabled bank accounts in India.

The service, which became operational on August 15, has been developed through collaboration among Qatar Post, India Post, the Universal Postal Union’s Interconnection Platform (UPU-IP) and NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL). It combines the reach of postal networks with India’s digital payments infrastructure to provide a faster and convenient channel for cross-border remittances.

Under the service, customers can initiate remittances at Qatar Post outlets by providing the recipient’s UPI ID and required identification details. The recipient must activate the facility for receiving foreign inward remittances through the UPI app being used. Once activated, the funds are credited instantly to the beneficiary’s UPI-enabled bank account.

Transactions can be made from QAR 10 to QAR 4,000, subject to a maximum equivalent of 1 lakh per transaction, with a flat service charge of QAR 15.

The service was launched in Qatar on Independence Day. H.E. Sandeep Kumar, Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of India in Qatar, visited the Qatar Post outlet at LuLu Mall, Doha, and interacted with stakeholders involved in the initiative.

The new facility is particularly significant for the large Indian community in Qatar, offering an accessible and secure mechanism to send money to families in India. The integration of UPU-IP with UPI also marks a step towards modernising international postal financial services and strengthening digital financial connectivity between India and Qatar.

India Post is also working with postal operators in other countries to establish additional PosTransfer powered by UPI corridors, with the aim of expanding seamless cross-border remittance services for the Indian diaspora. (PIB)
