Five-Day Media Exposure Tour to Chennai, Puducherry Concludes

13-Member J&K Media Delegation Returns to Srinagar

Bandipora, September 19: A 13-member media delegation from Jammu and Kashmir returned to Srinagar on Saturday following the conclusion of a five-day exposure tour to Chennai and Puducherry organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Srinagar.

The tour, held from September 13 to 19, aimed to provide journalists with exposure to developmental initiatives, scientific and technological institutions, infrastructure and the cultural heritage of southern India.

The delegation comprised editors, correspondents, reporters and photojournalists from Srinagar-based publications. The tour was led by Shahid Mohammad Lone, Field Publicity Officer, Central Bureau of Communication, as the Conducting Officer, with Information Assistant PIB Srinagar Ifham Ul Islam accompanying the delegation.

During the tour, the delegation interacted with Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry K. Kailashnathan. The journalists also interacted with senior officials from various media units of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The delegation visited major institutions and infrastructure facilities in Chennai, including IIT Madras, Integral Coach Factory and the Port of Chennai.

As part of the cultural and heritage component, the journalists visited Mahabalipuram, Wallajah Mosque, Dakshina Chitra, Auroville and the Old Lighthouse in Puducherry.

The delegation also visited Marina Beach, the backwaters and Blue Flag-certified Kovalam Beach, where officials briefed them on coastal water quality, visitor safety, sustainable tourism and waste management measures.

The participating journalists said the exposure tour provided firsthand insight into southern India’s industrial capabilities, environmental initiatives and cultural heritage, while facilitating cross-regional understanding and developmental reportage.
