Sopore, Aug 18: Youth Innovation Foundation (YIF) conducted a doctor led adolescent health awareness session at SRM Welkin Higher Secondary School Sopore, with an aim of creating great awareness among girls about menstrual and reproductive health.
A statement issued to Kashmir Convener read that the session was led by Dr. Tamanna, who spoke to the students about health concerns associated with adolescence, including Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), Polycystic Ovary Disease (PCOD), menstrual irregularities and other ovarian and reproductive health issues. She also discussed common symptoms, possible causes and the importance of seeking appropriate medical advice when required.
The session saw active participation from the students, with several girls raising questions about delayed or irregular periods, menstrual concerns, hormonal changes and other health-related issues.
Dr. Tamanna encouraged the students to pay attention to changes in their menstrual health and seek professional medical advice instead of relying on myths or misinformation.
She was accompanied by certified menstrual educator Zuha Msoodi, who supported the initiative and helped facilitate an open and comfortable environment for discussion.
The programme concluded with an interactive question and answer session, allowing students to discuss their concerns and receive guidance from the doctor.
According to the organisation, this session was part of its continuing efforts to promote menstrual health awareness, adolescent health education and informed conversations among young girls.
The organisation said the programme was well received by the students and provided them with an opportunity to access reliable information and develop greater confidence in understanding their health.
