Awantipora, June 06: Acting on reliable information regarding the illegal extraction of sand from the River Jhelum, Police Station Awantipora conducted a raid at Gagri Bal, Awantipora, and apprehended two persons involved in the offence.
The accused has been identified as Reyees Ahmad Bhat, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat and Sabzar Ahmad Bhat, son of Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, both residents of Bahoo, Awantipora, were found illegally extracting sand using two motorboats, causing damage to the banks of the River Jhelum.
Both accused were apprehended on the spot, and the two motorboats used in the commission of the offence were seized.
Accordingly, FIR No. 161/2026 has been registered at Police Station Awantipora under the relevant provisions of law. Further investigation is going on.
Awantipora Police remains committed to taking strict legal action against illegal mining and other activities that threaten the environment and public resources.
