Army’s Varmul Gindo 3.0 Sports Festival Begins in Baramulla

Baramulla, June 29: The Indian Army’s Dagger Division on Monday inaugurated the third edition of the month-long Varmul Gindo sports festival at Shoukat Ali Stadium, Baramulla, with an aim to promote sports, youth engagement and communal harmony across the district.

 

The festival, themed “Tarjuman-e-Aman” (Messenger of Peace), was inaugurated by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Dagger Division, in the presence of MLAs from Baramulla, Wagoora-Kreeri and Gulmarg, senior civil administration officials, sports personalities and local residents.

 

Nearly 3,000 boys and girls from different tehsils of Baramulla are expected to participate in the mega sporting event, which will feature more than 20 disciplines, including football, volleyball, rugby, tennis ball cricket, wushu, kabaddi and snooker at over 15 venues across the district.

 

The event commenced with a rugby match, symbolising teamwork and resilience.

 

Addressing the gathering, the GOC said the festival was not merely about winning medals but about building confidence, discipline and strengthening national integration among the youth. He described sports as an effective platform for promoting peace and constructive engagement.

 

Arjuna Awardee Rupali Patel Singh also interacted with the participants, encouraging them to pursue excellence through dedication and perseverance.

 

The event is being organised by the Army in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, District Youth Services and Sports Department, and the Baramulla Sports Association. Organisers said all competitions would be conducted under the supervision of recognised sports federations to ensure fair play and professional standards.

 

Besides promoting sports, the festival aims to identify emerging talent and foster social cohesion by providing a common platform for young athletes from across Baramulla.
