New Delhi, June 10: The Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Wednesday signed a ₹449 crore contract with Bengaluru-based Accord Software and Systems Private Limited (ASSPL) for the procurement of 20 Enhanced Capability Global Navigation Satellite System (ECGNSS) Jammers for the Indian Navy.

The contract was signed in New Delhi in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. The procurement has been undertaken under the Buy (Indian–Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category and includes a minimum indigenous content of 75 per cent.

According to the Ministry, the ECGNSS Jammers are designed to degrade satellite signal acquisition and tracking capabilities of adversary Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers. The systems also possess signal spoofing and deceptive jamming capabilities, enabling naval platforms to operate more effectively in complex and contested operational environments.

Defence officials said the induction of the systems is expected to enhance the operational safety and effectiveness of Indian Navy ships in multi-threat scenarios by strengthening their electronic warfare capabilities.

The Ministry stated that the procurement is part of ongoing efforts to modernise the armed forces and improve indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities. It added that the contract aligns with the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives by promoting the development and production of advanced military technologies within the country.

Officials said the project represents another step towards reducing dependence on foreign defence equipment while supporting domestic industry participation in strategic defence programmes.

The Ministry also noted that the acquisition would contribute to strengthening India’s maritime security architecture by enhancing the Navy’s ability to counter emerging technological threats in the maritime domain.

The contract comes amid continued efforts by the government to increase indigenous content in defence procurement and accelerate the development of homegrown defence technologies across all three services. (PIB)
