Wildlife Division Shopian Holds Awareness Programme on Human–Wildlife Conflict Mitigation in Tral

Tral, June 06: As part of its continued efforts to promote coexistence between humans and wildlife and to address the growing challenges arising from human–wildlife interactions, the Wildlife Division Shopian today organized a comprehensive awareness programme on the mitigation of Human–Wildlife Conflict, with special focus on Wild Boar, at Tral.

 

The programme was conducted under the leadership and guidance of Sohail Ahmad Wagay, Wildlife Warden Shopian/Pulwama, who has been actively spearheading initiatives aimed at wildlife conservation and conflict mitigation across the region, officials told Kashmir Convener.

 

At the outset, the Range Officer, Tral, welcomed the participants, including students from various educational institutions, local stakeholders, community representatives, and members of the public. He highlighted the importance of community participation and awareness in reducing incidents of human–wildlife conflict and fostering a culture of wildlife conservation.

 

Addressing the gathering, Sohail Ahmad Wagay, Wildlife Warden Shopian/Pulwama, emphasized the ecological significance of wildlife and the need for collective efforts to mitigate conflict situations. He elaborated on the increasing challenges posed by wild boar populations in certain areas and sensitized the participants about scientific and sustainable mitigation measures. He further stressed the importance of timely reporting of wildlife incidents, adoption of preventive measures, and active involvement of local communities in conservation initiatives.

 

The Wildlife Warden also underscored the role of students as ambassadors of environmental stewardship and encouraged them to spread awareness regarding wildlife conservation and responsible coexistence with nature.

 

During the interactive session, participants were apprised of various precautionary measures, government initiatives, and best practices aimed at minimizing crop damage and ensuring public safety while safeguarding wildlife. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, local residents, and other stakeholders, who actively engaged in discussions and shared their experiences related to human–wildlife interactions.

 

The event concluded with a vote of thanks, reaffirming the commitment of the Wildlife Division Shopian towards strengthening community outreach, enhancing public awareness, and promoting effective mitigation of human–wildlife conflict in the region.
