BOMIS Pampore Hosts ‘Young Voices: Interschool Youth Parliament 2026’

Pampore, June 6: Birla Open Minds International School (BOMIS), Pampore, successfully organized a two-day interschool academic event titled “Young Voices: Interschool Youth Parliament 2026” on June 6 and 7 under the aegis of its Social Sciences Department.

The event brought together student delegates from various schools, providing them with a dynamic platform to experience the functioning of a parliamentary system through a simulated and entirely student-led model.

Designed to promote democratic awareness, leadership, critical thinking, and effective communication, the Youth Parliament witnessed enthusiastic participation from students who engaged in structured parliamentary proceedings, including Question Hour, legislative debates, bill discussions, and committee sessions. Participants displayed remarkable confidence, discipline, and a strong understanding of contemporary social and national issues.

The opening ceremony was attended by several distinguished guests, including SDPO Pampore Ravinder Pal Singh, academicians Prof. Dr. Saad Parvez and Prof. M.A. Shah from NIT Srinagar, senior journalist Rizwan Jeelani, Chairman of BML Welfare Trust A.A. Mir, General Secretary G.M. Lone, Managing Trustees Younis Nisar Mir and Feroz Gul, along with Principal Dr. Mehnaz Rehman.

Addressing the gathering, Principal Dr. Mehnaz Rehman said the Youth Parliament was an effort to move beyond conventional classroom learning and provide students with a real-life democratic experience.

“Seeing students debate, question, and deliberate with confidence reflects the success of experiential learning in schools. Their enthusiasm and maturity throughout the proceedings have been truly encouraging,” she said.

Chairman, BML Welfare Trust, A.A. Mir lauded the initiative, stating that such programmes play a vital role in nurturing leadership qualities, responsibility, and civic awareness among young learners.

“Platforms like these are essential in shaping informed and responsible citizens who understand the value of democracy, dialogue, and constructive participation in society,” he remarked.

The dignitaries collectively emphasized the importance of creating opportunities that encourage students to engage with democratic processes and develop the skills necessary to become ethical, informed, and socially responsible leaders of the future.

The event served as a meaningful exercise in experiential learning, allowing students to gain firsthand insight into parliamentary procedures while strengthening their public speaking, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
