Bandipora, May 12: Bandipora Police on Monday destroyed illegally cultivated poppy crops in the Arin area of Bandipora during a joint operation with the Revenue, Agriculture and Excise departments as part of the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan”.
Police said a case under FIR No. 62/2026 has been registered at Police Station Bandipora under Sections 8 and 18 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation has been initiated.
Alongside enforcement action, police carried out a series of awareness programmes across Bandipora district aimed at sensitising students and the public about the risks and consequences of drug abuse.
In one programme held at Government High School Achoora in Gurez, students were informed about the harmful effects of substance abuse and encouraged to adopt drug-free lifestyles. Another session at Higher Secondary School Dawar focused on the role of students in spreading awareness within their communities.
At Panchayat Ghar Dawar, a large number of residents and civil society members participated in an awareness session and took a pledge to support efforts to eliminate drug abuse from society.
An additional programme was conducted at Government Girls High School Kaloosa, where officials held an interactive session on the legal, social and health impacts of drug addiction, with participation from students and staff.
Police also organised an awareness rally at Government Degree College Hajin, where students raised slogans promoting a drug-free society and participated in outreach activities.
Officials said all programmes witnessed active participation from students, teachers and members of the public, reflecting community engagement in the anti-drug campaign.
Jammu and Kashmir Police reiterated its commitment to combating drug abuse through strict enforcement measures and sustained public awareness initiatives. It urged citizens to actively cooperate in efforts aimed at building a drug-free society across the district.
