Pampore, May 08: An awareness run was organised at Lalpora in Pampore on Thursday under the ongoing “100 Days Nasha Mukht Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan” to promote awareness against drug abuse and encourage collective efforts towards building a drug-free society.
The programme was organised by the Social Welfare and Development Committee Lalpora Pampore in collaboration with Pampore Police. The run commenced from Eidgah Lalpora and concluded at Tulbagh, witnessing participation from local youth, civil society members, residents, and police officials.
Participants carried messages highlighting the harmful effects of substance abuse and the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles. Organisers said the event was aimed at sensitising the public, particularly the youth, about the dangers associated with drug addiction and the need for community participation in addressing the issue.
Chairman of the Social Welfare and Development Committee Lalpora, Bashir Ahmad Dar, along with officials from Pampore Police and members of civil society, attended the programme and appreciated the active involvement of young participants in the awareness initiative.
During the event, speakers stressed the importance of engaging youth in constructive and social activities to steer them away from substance abuse. They said awareness campaigns and community outreach programmes play an important role in strengthening public participation against the drug menace.
At the conclusion of the run, certificates of appreciation and cash awards were distributed among the top performers. Zeshan Fayaz secured the first position, while Afaq Gulzar and Enayet Manzoor secured the second and third positions respectively.
The organisers reiterated their commitment to continue organising similar awareness activities in the future to motivate youth towards positive engagement and reinforce the message of a healthy and drug-free society.
The programme was part of a series of activities being conducted across Jammu and Kashmir under the 100-day anti-drug campaign aimed at spreading awareness, encouraging public participation, and addressing substance abuse through coordinated efforts by civil society groups and government agencies.
