Bandipora, April 28: Authorities destroyed illegally cultivated poppy crops during a joint operation in the Shilvat area of Sumbal as part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign, officials said.
The operation was carried out by the Police in coordination with the Revenue, Agriculture, and Excise departments. During the drive, a patch of land under illicit poppy cultivation was identified and the crop was destroyed on the spot in accordance with legal provisions.
Police have registered a case under FIR No. 88/2026 under Sections 8/18 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act in connection with the illegal cultivation.
Officials said further investigation has been initiated to identify those involved and to determine the extent of the cultivation.
The action forms part of ongoing efforts by the administration to curb the cultivation of narcotic substances and dismantle the supply chain linked to drug abuse in the region.
