Karnah, April 23: Amid the slogans and silence of a peace rally in Karnah, one image stood out: a young schoolgirl from this border area holding a placard that read We Stand With Indian Army.

The rally was organized Tuesday to mark the first anniversary of the Pahalgam terror attack. Hundreds of residents, students, teachers, and officials gathered in Tangdhar to condemn terrorism and pay tribute to the victims. But it was the quiet resolve of children from border villages that left the deepest impact.

Dressed in her school uniform, with a white headscarf and face covered, the girl stood firm among her classmates, gripping the hand-painted placard showing Indian soldiers against a mountain backdrop with the tricolor. Locals said her gesture captured the sentiment of many in Karnah, a region that has lived under the shadow of cross-border tension, yet continues to place faith in peace and the armed forces.

Participants said the girl’s message was emotional and clear: border people stand with the Army that guards them. Our children see the Army every day. They protect us in snow, in firing, in floods. This is her way of saying thank you, said a local accompanying the students.

The rally also recalled the Indian Army’s role during Operation Sindoor, with speakers and students expressing gratitude for the forces’ vigilance in sensitive areas like Karnah. The event ended with a moment of silence for Pahalgam victims and a pledge by students to choose books over bullets.

It was a message from the frontier area of Jammu Kashmir that unity, peace, and faith in the nation run deep, even in the youngest hearts.
