Jammu, April 18: Theatre group Rangyug staged its production of “Ek Tha Gadha…” at Abhinav Theatre on Saturday, drawing a large audience and marking the introduction of a donor ticket model aimed at supporting theatre sustainability.

The play, written by Sharad Joshi and directed by Deepak Kumar, is a socio-political satire that examines themes of governance and power through a narrative combining humour and commentary. Officials associated with the production said the strong turnout reflects continued audience engagement with live theatre.

The performance featured an ensemble cast of more than 25 actors, bringing together senior performers and emerging artists. Key roles were portrayed by Raj Kumar Behrupia, Soham Kashyap, Isha Ankur Bamba, Ashish Sharma, Sahil Bazaz, Sumit Kumar, and Shivan Gupta, supported by a wider cast including young theatre practitioners.

A notable aspect of the production was its technical presentation, which integrated live visuals with stage performance. Organisers said this approach aimed to enhance audience engagement by introducing contemporary elements into traditional stagecraft.

Rangyug also introduced a donor ticket system for the event, under which audience members contributed voluntarily to support theatre activities. The initiative was presented as part of efforts to ensure the financial viability of stage productions in the region. Attendees acknowledged the move as a step towards sustaining theatre culture.

The production was supported by a technical and creative team responsible for music, costumes, lighting, set design, and stage management. Organisers said such collaborations are essential for maintaining production quality and continuity of theatre activities.

Speaking on the occasion, director Deepak Kumar said the play remains relevant in contemporary times and highlighted the group’s focus on combining experienced artists with new talent. He added that Rangyug continues to work towards providing a platform for performers while promoting socially relevant theatre.

The event concluded with audience engagement and discussions, reflecting continued interest in theatre-based storytelling in Jammu.
