J&K General Line Teachers Forum Opposes TET for In-Service Teachers

Srinagar, Feb 25: The Jammu and Kashmir General Line Teachers Forum has strongly condemned the decision of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir to conduct the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for in-service teachers, terming the move “unjustified and demoralizing.”

In a statement issued to Kashmir Convener, the Forum expressed serious concern over the proposal, stating that teachers currently serving in the Education Department were appointed through proper recruitment procedures in accordance with the rules and regulations in force at the time of their appointment.

“Imposing TET on in-service teachers at this stage creates unnecessary stress and undermines their years of professional experience and contribution to the education sector,” the Forum said.

The association maintained that many of these teachers have been serving with dedication and commitment for years, and subjecting them to an additional eligibility examination now would adversely affect morale within the teaching community.

Instead of burdening serving teachers with further examinations, the Forum urged the government to prioritise improvement of school infrastructure, ensure timely promotions, release pending service benefits, and address long-standing service-related grievances.

Calling for an immediate review of the decision, the Forum appealed to the authorities to withdraw the proposal in the larger interest of teachers and to ensure the smooth functioning of the education system across Jammu and Kashmir.
