Srinagar, Jan 04: Two senior leaders of the Jammu & Kashmir Teachers Forum (JKTF) have been inducted as Executive Members of the National Executive Committee of the All India Secondary Teachers Federation (AISTF), the apex national body representing secondary school teachers across the country.
UT Chief Spokesperson M Ashraf Khan of the JK Teachers Forum told Kashmir Convener said that the induction marks a rare and unprecedented moment, as two office-bearers from JKTF have simultaneously found representation in the highest decision-making body of AISTF, ensuring a stronger and more authoritative voice for teachers from the Union Territory at the national level.
The leaders entrusted with this prestigious national responsibility are Sheikh Mohammad Ashraf, State President of JKTF and UT President of the National Movement for Old Pension Scheme (NMOPS), and Mir Bashir Ahmad, UT-level General Secretary of JKTF and Chief Spokesperson of the UT Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC).
JKTF described the development as a major milestone, terming it a recognition of the leadership, sustained advocacy, and commitment of the two leaders towards teachers’ rights, educational reforms, and employees’ welfare in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the Forum, the dual induction is not merely an individual honour but a collective achievement for the entire teaching community of the Union Territory. It reflects the growing national recognition of JKTF as a credible and proactive organisation that has consistently raised issues related to service conditions, pension reforms, and the strengthening of public education.
With their presence in the National Executive Committee of AISTF, long-pending concerns and aspirations of teachers from Jammu and Kashmir are expected to find a stronger platform at the national policy-making level, potentially improving coordination between the Centre and the UT on matters related to education policy and teachers’ welfare.
Reacting to the development, JKTF UT Chief Spokesperson M Ashraf Khan said the induction marks the beginning of a new chapter for the organisation and educators of the region. “This is a moment of unparalleled pride for the entire teaching community of our Union Territory. The elevation of both our State President and our General Secretary to the apex body of AISTF firmly places Jammu and Kashmir on the country’s educational leadership map,” he said.
He added that JKTF remains committed to democratic values, constructive engagement, and sustained struggle for the protection of teachers’ rights and the strengthening of public education.
The Jammu & Kashmir Teachers Forum has extended its congratulations to both leaders and expressed confidence that their experience, integrity, and dedication will contribute meaningfully towards advancing teachers’ welfare and educational excellence, not only in Jammu and Kashmir but across the country.
