BARAMULLA, DEC 21  :  Defying the intense cold amid snowfall, a large number of people converged in north Kashmir’s Baramulla on Sunday for a massive political convention addressed by senior leader Touseef Raina.

Hundreds braved inclement conditions, traveling from across the constituency to the Dak Bungalow venue, in a display of support that organizers called a spontaneous show of faith. The gathering included prominent citizens, youth leaders, senior figures, and grassroots workers.

In a sharp critique of the political establishment, Touseef Raina lambasted what he termed the “hollow promises” of successive governments. “The people of Baramulla have been repeatedly promised development, employment, and basic amenities, only to be cheated,” he stated. He cautioned the public against being “misled again by slogans of free utilities and empty assurances.”

Accusing the political class of being profoundly disconnected, Raina highlighted a stark contrast “Leaders descend in helicopters for meetings, while the common citizen struggles for essentials. This chasm between the rulers and the ruled has never been clearer.”

He also took aim at the narrative of the National Conference, suggesting its electoral strategy had failed the people. “Votes were sought in the name of keeping a particular party at bay, but the ground reality speaks for itself. People now see the actual state of affairs,” he added.

Central to his address was the announcement of an independent public office to be established in Baramulla. Promising direct and transparent engagement, Raina said the office would serve as a grievance redressal and suggestion platform for citizens across Kashmir, operating “without discrimination or political bias.”

Touseef Raina also asserted, “This was not a gathering of paid crowds. No one was brought here with money, food, or favors. People came in their own vehicles, using their own fuel. I am profoundly grateful for this sacrifice in the severe cold.”

He further espoused a philosophy of equality and collective effort, declaring, “For me, everyone is equal. There are no designations here. It is about mutual commitment you are for me, and I am for you.”

Touseef Raina envisioned Baramulla transforming into a developmental hub through people-centric governance and active public participation.

The convention also featured addresses from local supporters, who expressed voluntary allegiance to Raina. They described him as the sole leader capable of understanding and fulfilling their genuine aspirations, underscoring a sentiment of chosen conviction rather than political compulsion.
