New Delhi, Dec 18 : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday arrested a ninth individual in connection with the November 10 blast in the Red Fort area, which killed 15 people and injured many others.
The arrested individual has been identified as Yasir Ahmad Dar, a resident of Shopian in Jammu and Kashmir. He is alleged to have been a close associate of the deceased suicide bomber, Umar-un-Nabi.
An NIA official informed Kashmir Convener that Dar was apprehended in New Delhi. The agency stated that he “played an active role in the conspiracy” behind the attack and had allegedly taken an oath to carry out self-sacrificial operations.
The official added that investigations reveal Dar was in close contact with other accused persons in the case, including the deceased bomber Umar-un-Nabi and another individual, Mufti Irfan.
This arrest follows extensive searches conducted earlier this month by the NIA at premises linked to several accused and suspects in Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh. These operations led to the seizure of digital devices and other incriminating materials.
Prior to these raids, similar searches were carried out at the premises of the prime accused, Dr. Muzammil Shakeel Ganai and Dr. Shaheen Saeed, at the Al Falah University complex and other locations in Faridabad, Haryana.
The eighth accused in the case, Dr. Bilal Naseer Malla of Baramulla, was arrested by the NIA on December 9.
The investigation into the blast had earlier uncovered a white-collar terror module allegedly operated by local doctors in the Faridabad area, leading to coordinated action by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Haryana Police.
Two conspirators, Dr. Adil Rather and Dr. Muzammil Ganai, were arrested at that time. A third, Dr. Umar Nabi, evaded capture and later executed the attack by detonating an explosive-laden vehicle near the Red Fort. Nabi was killed in the explosion, which also claimed the lives of 11 civilians.
