JKSA Seeks Time-Bound Probe into Youth’s Mysterious Death in Delhi
SRINAGAR, JUNE 4: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has demanded a swift, transparent, and time-bound investigation into the mysterious death of a 30-year-old Kashmiri youth, Zubair Ahmed Bhat, in New Delhi.
Zubair, a resident of Sehyar Ali Kadal in Srinagar, was found unconscious in a public park in the national capital on Monday and later declared dead at a hospital. According to Delhi Police, a PCR call was received from a passerby about an injured man lying in a park. He had reportedly suffered a head injury. An inquest has been initiated and a post-mortem has been conducted.
In a statement issued to Kashmir Convener, JKSA National Convenor Nasir Khuehami called on the Delhi Police to explore all possible angles, including foul play, and make the findings public within a set timeframe. “The circumstances of Zubair’s death raise serious concerns. We urge the police to ensure a fair and transparent probe. The silence and delay only deepen public fear and mistrust,” he said.
The Association also appealed to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora to personally intervene and constitute a high-level investigation team. “Justice must not be delayed. This is the bare minimum owed to the grieving family,” Khuehami added.
JKSA National President Ummar Jamal extended condolences to Zubair’s family and said the Association would provide full legal and logistical support. “We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss. The family deserves clear answers and justice,” Jamal said.
Family sources claimed Zubair had travelled to Delhi to receive a guest and lost contact around 4:00 PM on Monday. Later, they were informed of his death. They suspect he may have been assaulted and have reportedly shared chat screenshots that hint he was beaten in the locality where he was staying.
Zubair’s body was flown to Srinagar on Tuesday morning. The Association has vowed to pursue the matter with the concerned authorities until justice is delivered.
