Bandipora, April 29: Police in Bandipora have registered 15 FIRs and arrested 13 persons under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act over the past 20 days as part of the ongoing 100-days Nasha Mukt Abhiyan.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bandipora Aijaz Ahmad Zargar said the action is part of intensified efforts to curb drug abuse and narcotics trafficking across the district. He stated that multiple operations led to the arrest of alleged drug peddlers and recovery of charas from various locations.

SSP Zargar said enforcement measures are being carried out on both supply and demand fronts, combining crackdowns on trafficking networks with awareness initiatives aimed at discouraging substance abuse.

In a parallel drive against illegal cultivation, authorities destroyed poppy crops spread over 10 marlas of land and registered cases against those involved under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. Two immovable properties linked to drug peddling have also been identified and attached as part of legal proceedings.

He further said inspections of pharmaceutical outlets have been intensified. During recent checks, eight chemist shops were sealed for violating regulations related to the sale of controlled substances.

As part of deterrence measures, photographs of identified NDPS offenders have been displayed at Police Station Bandipora. Authorities said the step is aimed at discouraging youth from engaging in drug-related activities.

The SSP said community participation is being encouraged, with involvement of religious leaders, civil society members and students in awareness campaigns under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

Police have also established multiple checkpoints across the district to monitor movement and prevent illegal transportation of narcotics.

Officials said the response from the public has been supportive, aiding efforts towards curbing drug abuse and achieving a drug-free environment.
