PAMPORE, April 22: In a targeted operation against traffic violations, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, Liaqat Ali, along with DySP Traffic Pulwama–Shopian Mushtaq Ahmad and DTI Pulwama Farooq Ahmad, conducted a special enforcement drive along the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway (NH-44) near Chandhara area of Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday.

The drive focused on curbing violations such as overloading, over-speeding, non-use of helmets and seat belts, use of pressure horns, and absence of valid vehicle documents. During the operation, Traffic Police issued a large number of challans against offenders found violating provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Speaking on the occasion, SSP Liaqat Ali appealed to the public to strictly follow traffic rules and regulations, stressing the need to curb offences like carrying excess passengers, rash driving, overloading, and over-speeding. He said such violations have recently resulted in several fatal road accidents.

Traffic officials also counselled drivers and passengers on the spot, advising them to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for safe and accident-free driving. Vehicle operators were instructed to maintain prescribed speed limits and avoid overloading, rash and negligent driving, and stunt driving to ensure the safety of human lives.

The primary objective of the drive was to create awareness among road users and ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations for the safety of all commuters. Officials said such enforcement measures also act as a deterrent against habitual violators.

Speaking to Kashmir Convener, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir Liaqat Ali said that strict checking was carried out during the drive on NH-44 at Chandhara, Pampore, particularly targeting passenger vehicles involved in overloading and over-speeding. He added that dozens of vehicles were challaned for violations, while some vehicles were also seized during the operation.

He further emphasized that such enforcement drives will continue regularly, with daily monitoring across roads to ensure strict action against traffic violators.

SSP Liaqat Ali appealed to drivers not to indulge in overloading, especially in vehicles operating in remote areas, warning that overloading will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He also urged parents not to allow minors to drive and cautioned against stunt driving and over-speeding, stating that all forms of traffic violations will be dealt with firmly under the law.
