SRINAGAR, AUGUST 29: The Khyber Cement Kashmir Super League Season 2 officially took shape on Saturday with the unveiling of jerseys of all six franchises and the coveted league trophy at the TRC Ground here, a day ahead of National Sports Day.
The ceremony came a day after nearly 200 footballers went under the hammer in the player auction, with all six franchises completing their squads for the second season. Defending champions United Elegant FC will return to the competition seeking to retain the title they won last season after a thrilling penalty shootout.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by Sports Minister J&K Satish Sharma, Commissioner Secretary Youth Services & Sports Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Secretary J&K Sports Council Nuzhat Gul and Chief of Sales & Customer Relations, Khyber Cement, Wasim Ahmed Khan. Franchise owners, sporting administrators, corporate partners and other football stakeholders were also present.
Speaking on Khyber Cement’s association with the league, Director Corporate & Strategy Umar Tramboo said the company believes that growth should benefit communities and that its association with the Kashmir Super League reflects this vision.
Wasim Ahmed Khan said the league provided Khyber Cement an opportunity to connect with the people of Jammu and Kashmir through football and create meaningful engagement with the region’s youth.
Season 1 also produced promising results for young footballers. Aazim Parvez and Abrar Ali, who received Emerging Player awards last season, have subsequently been called up to the India Under-17 national team camp.
The organisers said the second season aims to provide a bigger platform for young footballers through six competitive franchises, a stronger player pool and greater corporate support. The league also seeks to promote values such as discipline, teamwork, leadership and resilience among youth.
The jersey and trophy unveiling, held ahead of National Sports Day, marked the beginning of another season of the league and highlighted the growing collaboration between the government, sporting institutions, corporate sector and football community to strengthen the sporting culture of Jammu and Kashmir.
With six teams ready and the defending champions preparing to face the challenge, Season 2 of the Khyber Cement Kashmir Super League is set to build on the momentum generated by its inaugural season.
