Pampore, Oct 10: Shining Star Cricket Club of Drangbal defeated Jehlum Blues of Kadlabal by four wickets to win a cricket tournament organised by the 185 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Pampore under its Civic Action Programme.

Four teams—Umeed Falcons Cricket Club of Frestabal, Shining Star Cricket Club, Jehlum Blues and Friends 11 of Pampore—participated in the tournament, with all matches played over 10 overs.

Following the preliminary rounds, Shining Star Cricket Club and Jehlum Blues advanced to the final, where the Drangbal side secured the title with a four-wicket victory.

CRPF officials distributed trophies, awards and sports uniforms among the winning and runner-up teams at the conclusion of the event.

Deputy Commandant D.D. Chourasiya said the tournament was organised to encourage young people to participate in sports and strengthen relations between the force and the local community.

“This is our second cricket tournament, and we plan to organise more such tournaments, including one in the Lethpora area. Our primary objective is to encourage young people to actively participate in sports and keep themselves engaged in positive activities,” he told Kashmir Convener.

Chourasiya said the tournament received an enthusiastic response from local residents, who had also requested the CRPF to organise a larger event in Pampore.

He said the battalion also undertook social welfare activities, including free medical camps, particularly in remote areas of Pampore tehsil where healthcare facilities were limited. Eight free medical camps had been organised in the area this year, he added.

The event was attended by Second-in-Command D.D. Chourasiya, Assistant Commandants Mukesh Kumar and Mahesh Kumar, SDPO Pampore R.P. Singh, SHO Pampore Khalid Fayaz, CRPF personnel and local dignitaries.

Chourasiya urged young people to focus on education, participate in sports and work hard to contribute to the country. The battalion said it would continue to organise community-oriented programmes to promote discipline, sportsmanship and constructive engagement among youth.
