New Delhi, November 2: Financial assistance under the National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste Students (NFSC) Scheme has helped a doctoral scholar from Tamil Nadu pursue his PhD and advance his professional career, according to a profile released by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

The scholar, identified as Pavithran S (name changed), 32, belongs to Ranipet district and was the first student at his institution to receive the fellowship under the scheme.

His fellowship support began in March 2023 and included financial assistance, House Rent Allowance (HRA) and contingency support. A total of Rs 5 lakh has been provided to him under the scheme, the release said.

Pavithran initially encountered administrative challenges, including the creation of Maker and Checker IDs at the institutional level to process fellowship-related formalities.

The financial assistance helped him continue his doctoral studies while easing financial pressures on his family. He said the support had been instrumental in pursuing his PhD and improving his family’s financial stability.

The fellowship has also contributed to his professional development. Pavithran is currently employed full-time and credits the scheme with helping him sustain his academic pursuits and build his career.

The profile highlights the role of targeted financial assistance in enabling Scheduled Caste students to pursue higher education and work towards academic and professional goals.
