J&K PICCA Welcomes Govt Ban On Apple Imports

Srinagar, May 10: The Jammu and Kashmir Fruits & Vegetables Processing & Integrated Cold Chain Association (J-K PICCA) Wedensday welcomed the order issued by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, prohibiting the import of apples unless the CIF value is higher than Rs 50 per kg. 

 

In a statement, Maajid Aslam Wafai, President of J&K PICCA, expressed his delight at the introduction of the Minimum Import Policy (MIP) and said it brought much-needed joy to the Valley's apple growers.

 

Majid expressed his gratitude towards the LG Manoj Sinha for playing vital role in addressing the pressing issue of apple growers and people associated with it.

 

He noted that the LG Sinha has continually been at the forefront of furthering the lives of Kashmiris in various sectors particularly horticulture sector. In addition, he mentioned that the horticulture sector plays an important role in the economy of Jammu and Kashmir, and that the government's actions should help to boost it.(GNS)
