Kurukshetra, October 29: Balwinder Pal Singh, a prominent theatre artist hailing from Jammu, has brought immense pride to the region with his commanding portrayal of Lord Rama in the Ramayan Utsav held at Geeta Gyan Sansthan, Kurukshetra. His performance drew standing ovations and widespread praise from theatre critics and audiences alike.

The festival featured one of North India’s largest and most elaborate stage adaptations of the Ramayana — a four-hour theatrical spectacle that blended devotion, grandeur, and dramatic artistry. Over 120 artists from across the country, including several alumni of the National School of Drama (NSD), took part in the production that mesmerized audiences with its scale and soul.

Directed by the renowned theatre maestro Ravi Mohan Ji, the play brought together classical performance traditions and modern stage technology. The soul-stirring music, composed by Manan Bhardwaj, the acclaimed composer behind the hit song “Arjan Vailly” from the Bollywood film Animal, elevated the emotional and spiritual resonance of the performance.

Speaking about his experience, Balwinder said, “It is a matter of immense pride for me — and for my home state of Jammu — that I had the honour to represent Lord Rama in such a prestigious national production. Portraying this divine role on such a magnificent stage was both a spiritual journey and an unforgettable artistic milestone.”

The Ramayan Utsav drew massive audiences from across Haryana and neighbouring states, with thousands of devotees and theatre enthusiasts thronging the venue. The production was widely appreciated for its visual grandeur, rich choreography, spiritual depth, and stellar performances.

Balwinder’s achievement not only highlights the growing recognition of Jammu’s theatre talent on the national stage but also reinforces the region’s strong cultural contribution to India’s vibrant performing arts tradition.
