Udhampur/Poonch, April 17: The Indian Army on Friday organised a series of community outreach programmes across Jammu and Kashmir, focusing on youth engagement, awareness, and strengthening civil-military relations through sports, interaction, and educational initiatives.

Defence Spokesperson in Jammu told Kashmir Convener that in Udhampur district, the Army’s Delta Force conducted the “Latti Volleyball League – Season 1” at Latti Panchayat from April 15 to 16. The event saw participation from 10 teams representing areas such as Sudhmahadev, Sira, Latti, Jakhed and Basantgarh, with around 500 people in attendance.

Officials said the initiative aimed at promoting teamwork, fostering mutual trust, and enhancing coordination between the Army and local communities. The league concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, with participants and residents appreciating the move.

In Poonch district, the Army organised an interaction programme at Samote, attended by 107 participants including village elders, ex-servicemen, and local residents. The session focused on highlighting developmental initiatives, community participation, and the role of the Army in fostering social progress.

Discussions also covered inclusion of Gujjar and Bakarwal communities, education, and public cooperation in nation-building. Participants engaged actively and expressed appreciation for the initiative.

Separately, a youth career counselling lecture was conducted at Chiralla, where around 18 participants attended. The session provided guidance on career opportunities in government services, with emphasis on education, skill development, and preparation for competitive examinations.

Officials said the programme aimed to help youth make informed career choices.

In another outreach effort, the Army organised a lecture on “Narcoterrorism and Drug Abuse” at a high school in Sarsoti. The session focused on raising awareness about the link between drug trafficking and terrorism, and its impact on individuals and society.

Participants were sensitised about preventive measures, early identification of substance abuse, and the importance of seeking timely assistance.

Officials said these initiatives are part of continued efforts by the Army to engage with local communities, promote awareness, and support youth development across the region.
